Forget the Fire Videos! This is What Cupping Feels Like.

Forget all those viral videos of glass cups being engulfed in fire and flames before they are put on your flesh. No wonder you haven't tried it yet. Yes, cupping sometimes leaves marks, but it doesn't need flames and smoke to get that pulling sensation that helps heal your sore muscles.

Dr. Jann Turpin uses a different technique with patients at Riverplace Acupuncture Integrative Health – myofascial cupping. Using both round and now squared cups, thanks to new cups created by Fascia Buddy, Dr. Jann precisely targets pain. The cups fit together seamlessly to create large decompression zones over muscles and tissues for optimal results.

"The entire treatment felt great; I have tight shoulders and often need recovery after a hard workout," says Chris Turner, a patient at Riverplace Acupuncture. "Dr. Jann pinpoints the pain, and it feels like the cups are reaching those sore areas that I cannot get to with my foam roller or muscle rub."

"Cupping provides a unique advantage. With square cups, they fit together perfectly to create a continuous decompression zone over the target area. Whether you’re addressing pain, trigger points, or specific muscle shapes, you can select the cup for each zone size and build a customized myofascial decompression matrix," explains Dr. Jann.

The shape of the cups can be utilized in different ways to maximize treatments.

"We can use the edge of the cup to scrape over lubricated tissues for a gua sha-like effect. And then with a simple 45-degree turn of the cup, the rounded corner acts like a deep tissue mobilization tool when tipped down and into the tissues."

The exciting feature of moving cupping with the edge options is that the trailing edge of the cup is lifting and flushing the tissues while the front edge of the cup is compressing and breaking up restrictions and adhesions. A two-for-one, yin-yang benefit!

"It feels great. It honestly didn't hurt at all," says Turner. "It was more like pulling, a tightening of the skin, and when the cup came off, that part felt amazing. Yes, it leaves temporary marks, but they didn't bother me. I will do it again after a hard workout."

If you have tight shoulders, a sore back, or muscles that never quite recover between workouts, ask Dr. Jann if cupping is right for you. She offers a no-cost consult, and treatment may begin directly following your consult.
