“New information, new acupuncture techniques and new tools, it is so important to never stop learning how to give great care.” After traveling to Orlando this month to attend the Florida State Oriental Medicine Association’s (FSOMA) Annual Acupuncture & Eastern Medicine Conference, Dr. Jann Turpin is bringing home new ideas, techniques, and tools that she hopes to incorporate with patients at Riverplace Acupuncture Integrative Health.

Joining hundreds of acupuncture and Eastern medicine practitioners from across Florida and beyond, the weekend offered opportunities for continuing education, professional connection and learning from practitioners and industry leaders.

For Dr. Jann, it was an inspiring weekend and an opportunity to continue growing as a practitioner. “New tools and products, different speakers and mentors who shared their personal techniques and experiences. It was an inspiring weekend,” Dr. Jann says. “It was much more than attending a conference. It was an opportunity to grow as a practitioner and ultimately bring that knowledge back to our patients at Riverplace.”

A Weekend of Learning and Connection

Healthcare is always evolving, and acupuncture is no different. Conferences like FSOMA give practitioners an opportunity to deepen their knowledge, explore new approaches, and stay connected to what is happening within the field.

“There was education on new therapies to try, as well as herbal supplements and topicals that I would like to bring to our clinic,” Dr. Jann says. The conference also allowed her to connect directly with some of the people behind products and tools she already uses at Riverplace Acupuncture.

One highlight was meeting the inventor of Acufast needles, the eco-friendly needles Dr. Jann uses at Riverplace. “I had the opportunity to meet and talk to the inventor of the needles I prefer to use, John Stan,” Dr. Jann says. “He shared some of his new techniques and some of his new inventions at the conference, which gave everyone there an inside look at what’s coming down the pipeline. The entire weekend was great, but that was a big highlight for me.”

Dr. Jann also had the chance to reconnect with the makers of Evil Bone Water at the Saint Apothecary booth. The topical is already a fan favorite at Riverplace, and sharing Evil Bone Water success stories with the people behind the product was another fun experience at the conference. Beyond the formal education, FSOMA creates opportunities to exchange ideas, discover new products and therapies, and build relationships with others who are passionate about the work.

Bringing It Back to Riverplace Acupuncture Integrative Health

For Dr. Jann, continuing education isn't simply about adding another conference to the calendar. It is about staying inquisitive and finding new ways to support her patients.

“Whether it is a new insight, a different way of looking at a patient's concerns, or a new cutting-edge treatment, this conference helps keep me curious and growing,” Dr. Jann says.
